Bitches Brew

Occasionally overindulgent but the quality is undeniable.

Bitches Brew

Fine album from a good band. Nothing offensive, nothing transcendent. It sits comfortably in the middle of their discography and that's okay. Not everything needs to be a masterpiece to be worth your time.

In a Silent Way

One of those albums that people praise because it's 'different' and 'challenging' but different and challenging aren't inherently good. The few moments of genuine quality make the rest feel even more disappointing by comparison.

In a Silent Way

Great album that rewards repeated listens. Gets better every time.

In a Silent Way

There's a before and after with this album. It changed everything.

In a Silent Way

Competent and often enjoyable, but feels like it's missing something to make it truly special.

In a Silent Way

I keep going back and forth on this one. Some days I think it's underrated, other days I think the consensus is about right. The production is genuinely interesting — there are textures and sonic choices here that I haven't heard elsewhere. But the songwriting underneath all that ornamentation is sometimes pretty thin. It's one of those albums that's more fun to think about and discuss than it is to actually listen to, if that makes sense. The concept is great, the execution is uneven. I respect it more than I enjoy it, but I do respect it quite a bit.

In a Silent Way

A confident, mature work. You can hear the growth from their earlier releases.

This album is a complete artistic statement. No filler, no compromises.

Perfect from front to back. Not a single moment wasted.

The instrumentation is gorgeous throughout. Really well produced.

A good album in a discography full of great ones.

Perfectly serviceable album that I enjoy in the moment but forget about as soon as it's over. That's not necessarily a criticism — sometimes you just want something pleasant on in the background. It fills that role well.

I've tried writing about this album so many times and words always fall short.

I keep trying to find something wrong with this album and I genuinely can't. The melodies are gorgeous, the arrangements are inventive, the lyrics are thoughtful without being pretentious. It just fires on every cylinder from start to finish.

I wanted this to be better than it is. The ingredients are all there — the talent, the ambition, the production budget — but it never quite gels into something greater than the sum of its parts. Still a pleasant enough listen though.

This is fine but I expected more given the critical consensus.

Middle of the road for this artist. Not bad by any means but not essential.
