MASSEDUCTION

Lost me about halfway through. The front end is promising though.

Donuts

Not their absolute best work but still head and shoulders above most albums.

Ambitious and mostly successful. A couple of missteps keep it from true perfection.

The Campfire Headphase

I slept on this for way too long. A friend kept recommending it and I kept putting it off, and now I feel like I wasted years not having this in my life. The songwriting is remarkably assured — these aren't the kind of hooks that grab you immediately and then fade. They're the slow-burn kind that embed themselves in your brain and only get stronger over time. The production deserves a lot of credit too. It's detailed without being cluttered, polished without being sterile. There's a warmth to the sound that makes it feel alive and breathing. A few tracks could have been trimmed but honestly that's a minor complaint about an excellent record.

The Campfire Headphase

The production is excellent but the songwriting doesn't always match up.

Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You

I wanted this to be better than it is. The ingredients are all there — the talent, the ambition, the production budget — but it never quite gels into something greater than the sum of its parts. Still a pleasant enough listen though.

Dragon New Warm Mountain I Believe in You

Occasionally overindulgent but the quality is undeniable.

Endless

The production is excellent but the songwriting doesn't always match up.

3 Feet High and Rising

A solid album with some standout tracks, but a bit uneven overall.

3 Feet High and Rising

A few tracks could have been cut without losing anything, but what's here is largely excellent. The production is gorgeous and the performances are top-notch. One of the better albums I've heard recently.

3 Feet High and Rising

Not quite their best work but honestly that's a high bar. This is still a fantastic album by any reasonable standard. The songwriting is sharp, the sound is distinctive, and it's got great replay value.

Crescent

Love the sonic palette on this record. Every sound feels intentional and the mix is pristine. A couple of the songs blur together on casual listens but focused listening reveals the nuances. Very strong work overall.

Crescent

Ambitious album that mostly delivers. There are one or two moments where they overreach, but the confidence and vision on display are admirable. The standout tracks here are absolutely world-class.

There are about six really good songs here buried in an album that's twelve tracks too long. The edit would be excellent but as presented, it's a patience-testing listen that rewards skipping around.

Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?

Decent album with a handful of really excellent tracks. The problem is the material between those peaks isn't compelling enough to hold your attention. Worth cherry-picking the highlights for a playlist.

Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?

A high watermark for the genre. Essential listening.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

There's a really great EP buried inside this album. The problem is the surrounding material dilutes the impact. When this hits, it HITS — a couple of these tracks are among the best things they've ever done. But then you get a run of three mediocre songs in a row and the momentum completely dies. I appreciate the attempt at a longer, more ambitious project, but I think this artist works better in shorter formats. The ideas here are strong but they're stretched too thin. Still worth hearing for the highlights though.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Pretentious and meandering. Style over substance.

Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga

Not sure what happened here. Their previous work was so strong and this feels like a significant step backward. The songwriting is lazy, the production is overwrought, and the whole thing feels phoned in. A couple of decent tracks don't save it.
