For Emma, Forever Ago

Arguably the greatest album in its genre. Hard to argue otherwise.

For Emma, Forever Ago

This is fine but I expected more given the critical consensus.

For Emma, Forever Ago

I appreciate what they were going for even if it doesn't fully land.

For Emma, Forever Ago

I appreciate the artistic risk-taking even if the result is a bit of a mess. There are kernels of good ideas scattered throughout but nothing is developed enough to really land. Frustrating because you can hear the potential.

For Emma, Forever Ago

Some truly transcendent moments here. A few tracks feel like filler but overall stellar.

For Emma, Forever Ago

The instrumentation is gorgeous throughout. Really well produced.

For Emma, Forever Ago

Ambitious and mostly successful. A couple of missteps keep it from true perfection.

For Emma, Forever Ago

This was the album that got me into this genre and honestly nothing else has matched it since. The songwriting is inspired, the performances are committed, and the whole thing hangs together as a complete artistic vision. Masterful stuff.

For Emma, Forever Ago

I've listened to this front to back more times than I can count and it never loses its magic. The production is meticulous without ever feeling sterile, and every track contributes something essential to the whole. One of those albums that genuinely changed my taste in music.

For Emma, Forever Ago

Enjoyable but not groundbreaking. Good for what it is.

Fleet Foxes

I think this album gets slightly overlooked in discussions about the best of its era, which is a shame because it does so many things right. The arrangements are inventive without being showy, the performances are committed and emotionally present, and the overall arc of the tracklist is really well considered. My only real criticism is that it occasionally feels like it's holding back when it should be going for broke. There are moments where you can sense a bigger, bolder idea lurking just beneath the surface. But what's actually here is still great — a confident, cohesive album that rewards close listening and repeated plays.

Fleet Foxes

Not terrible but certainly not deserving of the acclaim.

I respect the ambition but this doesn't work for me.

Fleet Foxes

An absolute masterpiece from start to finish. Every track earns its place.

Fleet Foxes

Peak creative output from an artist at the top of their game.

Fleet Foxes

Not quite their best work but honestly that's a high bar. This is still a fantastic album by any reasonable standard. The songwriting is sharp, the sound is distinctive, and it's got great replay value.

Fleet Foxes

Feels self-indulgent in places. Could have been much better with editing.

Fleet Foxes

A confident, mature work. You can hear the growth from their earlier releases.

Fleet Foxes

Probably the most perfectly sequenced album I've ever heard. Each track sets up the next one beautifully and the climax hits like a freight train. The fact that they pulled this off is honestly kind of miraculous.
